Why is your Thermomix still sitting on the counter? 10 reasons you’re not using it.

You bought a Thermomix. At first, you were excited. Maybe you made a soup, a sauce, a dessert or a dish you would normally never have made yourself. You discovered a few of its functions and thought: “This is really going to make my life easier.” And then something happened that is much more common than you might think: the Thermomix stayed on the kitchen counter. Not because you don’t like it. Not because it doesn’t do what it is supposed to do. Simply because, after that initial excitement, you weren’t quite sure how to make it part of your everyday routine.
Maybe you recognise yourself in this. You open Cookidoo and get lost among thousands of recipes. You feel like you first need to learn all the functions before you can really use the appliance properly. Or perhaps you mainly use it for one or two dishes, even though you know it can do so much more. The good news? You really don’t need to learn more. You mainly need to look at the way you use your Thermomix differently.
Here are 10 reasons why your Thermomix might still be spending too much time on the counter, and what you can do about it.
1. You don’t know where to start
A Thermomix can do a lot. And that is exactly what can feel a little overwhelming at first. You have an appliance that can weigh, chop, mix, knead, cook, steam and much more. On top of that, there’s Cookidoo with an enormous number of recipes. But when you come home after a long day at work and think, “What are we having for dinner tonight?”, endless possibilities don’t always help. You start looking for a quick main course, then you see an interesting dessert, then you discover a new bread recipe and suddenly 20 minutes have passed without you actually deciding what’s for dinner.
Try turning it around. Don’t look for the perfect recipe. Look for a solution to what you need today. Short on time? Choose something that can be prepared quickly. Want as little washing-up as possible? Choose a dish where you can prepare several components in your Thermomix. Have ingredients in the fridge that need to be used? Search based on those ingredients. As soon as you stop thinking, “What can my Thermomix do?” and start asking, “What can my Thermomix help me with today?”, everything becomes much easier.
2. Cookidoo gives you too much choice
Thousands of recipes sound amazing. And they are. But you absolutely don’t need to know them all. A common mistake is thinking that you need to try a new recipe every day to get the most out of your Thermomix. You really don’t. In fact, you will probably get much more use out of ten recipes that you make regularly than from 100 recipes you saved “for later”.
Create your own small collection of dishes that actually fit your life. A few quick weekday meals, a soup everyone likes, a basic sauce, a favourite breakfast, something for the children, a dough recipe and perhaps a few dishes for the weekend. Over time, you won’t have to think about what you can make with your Thermomix. You’ll simply know: on Monday I make this, on Wednesday I make that, and when I’m short on time, I make this. Cookidoo then stops being an endless recipe library and becomes a tool that genuinely makes your everyday life easier.
3. You think you always have to follow a recipe
This is another thing many new users experience. You buy a Thermomix and naturally assume that every time you use it, you need to find a recipe and follow it step by step. But at some point, you can let go of that idea. Thermomix isn’t only a device for making Cookidoo recipes. It can simply be your kitchen assistant when you already know what you want to make. A sauce? A soup? A dressing? A dip? A purée? Dough?
You don’t have to ask yourself every time: “Is there a recipe for this?” More and more often, you can simply think: “How can I use my Thermomix® for this?” That is actually the moment when you go from being a beginner to someone who has truly integrated the Thermomix® into their own kitchen.
4. You’re still cooking exactly the way you used to
This might sound strange, but it happens all the time. You buy a Thermomix, but you barely change the way you cook. You still chop everything by hand, stir in a pan, keep an eye on the oven and only occasionally use the Thermomix for a soup or smoothie. Yet this is exactly where you can save a lot of time. The goal isn’t for the Thermomix to do everything for you. The goal is for it to take over part of the work.
While the Thermomix is preparing a sauce or mixing something, you can get on with something else. You don’t have to stand next to a pan the entire time, stirring and checking what’s happening. And that difference becomes especially noticeable on busy days. Because let’s be honest: on a relaxed Sunday, you might not care whether you spend an extra 20 minutes in the kitchen. But on a Wednesday evening, when you’ve just got home, the children need your attention, the groceries still need to be put away and everyone is hungry, those same 20 minutes can make a huge difference.
5. You don’t have your own “Top 10” recipes
You don’t need to become a Thermomix expert. You don’t need hundreds of recipes either. Simply start with your personal Top 10.
Which dishes does your family enjoy?
What do you make regularly?
Which meals normally take a lot of time or involve lots of different steps?
Those are exactly the recipes you should start with. Once you have a few tried-and-tested favourites, using your Thermomix becomes much more natural. You don’t have to rediscover what you can do with it every time. You have a reliable base to fall back on. And then, of course, you can keep trying new things. But first: make life easy for yourself.
6. Your Thermomix is in a place where you don’t really want to use it
Where your Thermomix is placed in your kitchen matters more than you might think. If you have to take it out of a cupboard every time, clear a space on the counter and set everything up before you can even start, the barrier to using it automatically becomes higher. An appliance that is ready to use gets used more often.
So take an honest look at your kitchen. Is your Thermomix somewhere that is easy to access? Can you simply walk over, switch it on and start? It might sound like a small detail, but these are exactly the little things that eventually shape our everyday habits.
7. You think you need more accessories
Getting one accessory after another can obviously be fun. And some accessories can absolutely make your way of cooking even easier. But you don’t need an entire collection before you can use your Thermomix properly. First, learn what you already have.
Discover which functions you actually use and which possibilities fit the way you cook. Then you can always decide whether an additional accessory would genuinely add something for you. The important thing isn’t how much you have. It’s how much you actually use.
8. You try to cook complicated things straight away
Maybe your first thought after buying a Thermomix was: “Now I’m going to make everything from scratch.” Bread. Cakes. Sauces. Desserts. Everything. Sounds great but it isn’t always realistic.
If you spend hours in the kitchen every time you use your Thermomix to prepare a complicated recipe, it can start to feel like just another task. Instead, start with dishes that genuinely make your life easier. A quick soup. A sauce. A simple main meal. A breakfast you can prepare in advance. Dough that you would otherwise have to knead by hand.
Thermomix doesn’t have to become your new hobby. It can simply be a way to spend less time in the kitchen without compromising on good food.
9. You’re not using it to make your whole week easier
One of the biggest benefits of a Thermomix isn’t necessarily visible in one individual dish, but across your entire week. When you plan a few meals in advance, you can shop more intentionally and you don’t have to start from scratch every evening deciding what’s going on the table.
You really don’t need a perfect seven-day meal-prep schedule. A few planned meals can already make a difference. Maybe you make a soup on Sunday that will last for several days. Maybe you prepare a basic sauce that you can use later. Maybe you prepare breakfast in advance or plan two quick meals for the busiest days of the week. It’s not about planning everything perfectly. It’s about not having to start from zero again on a busy Tuesday evening.
10. Nobody has shown you how to adapt the Thermomix to your life
And perhaps this is the most important reason of all. You can know all the functions. You can use Cookidoo. You can have hundreds of recipes saved. But if nobody has helped you discover how the Thermomix fits into your everyday life, it can sometimes remain simply a beautiful appliance sitting on your kitchen counter. Because the way you cook is personal.
A family with young children has different needs from someone who lives alone. Someone who comes home after a long day at work has different priorities from someone who genuinely enjoys spending hours in the kitchen. And someone who mainly wants to cook quickly and healthily will use their Thermomix differently from someone who loves baking.
That’s why a good Thermomix demonstration isn’t just about showing you all the functions. It’s about discovering: “What can my Thermomix do for me?” You don’t need to get everything out of your Thermomix.
You just need to use it more often. And perhaps that is the most important message of all. You don’t need to become a Thermomix expert. You don’t need to make a new recipe every day. You don’t need to know every function by heart, and you certainly don’t need every accessory. You simply need to discover which parts of your everyday life become easier when you use your Thermomix. Less chopping. Less stirring. Fewer pans. Less thinking about what to cook. And above all: more time for the rest of your day.
So if your Thermomix is currently mostly sitting there looking pretty on the counter, give it another chance tomorrow. Choose one meal you normally make and instead of asking yourself: “What Thermomix recipe should I find for this?” ask yourself: “Which part of this meal could my Thermomix do for me?” Start small. The rest will come naturally.
And if, after buying your Thermomix, you’re still thinking, “It’s a great appliance, but I’m honestly not sure how to use it properly”, you don’t have to figure it all out on your own. A personal demonstration isn’t only about showing you how a Thermomix works. It’s an opportunity to discover how you can use it in a way that fits your life, your kitchen and your family. Because a Thermomix shouldn’t be sitting on your kitchen counter simply because it looks good there. It should be there because it works for you
